Welcome to Mrs. Gruntz 4th Grade Class!

Hello Sycamore Families!
Many of you are familiar with me already, but here is my short intro if you are new. I am originally from Colombia, and I have been in the States for twenty-two years. I went to CBU and obtained a bachelor's and a Master's degree in education in 2015. I am a credentialed educator and this is going to be my 9th year serving the community as an Elementary Teacher. I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I love teaching and everything to do with academics while having fun! This is going to be my second school year at Sycamore Academy, and I am beyond excited! I can't wait to see all the 4th graders. We are going to rock this year again and we are going to have so much fun!
I have been married for 17 years, I have no children, so my students become my kiddos each year. I am looking forward.
Please don't ever hesitate to contact me, I enjoy communicating about the happenings in our classroom and I am looking forward to having parent volunteers in the classroom.

Our students are doing their best during state testing!
I got them some citrus fruit to keep their brains energized.
I am so proud of them!
Reading Fun!
My classroom has been reading each Morning.
They have been tested in every book they read. Every time they pass a test on the book comprehension test, they receive from $20 to $30 in their Bankaroo account.
So far they have read 68 books in the last two months and a half.

Last Trimester!

Our students have been working so hard this year and we have seen so much growth! We completed the two weeks of I-ready testing. I got to meet with each student to examine their academic and personal goals. Many students reached the end of the year goal during the first or second trimester! How amazing! Now we are focusing on reaching the next goals. The students will be taking the MAPs test next week and we need your support to make sure they are well rested and ready to show their academic skills. We are not counting the days, but we are making each day count!

2024 Solar Eclipse!

Our students enjoy learning and experiencing the solar eclipse. Everyone one has the opportunity to look at our sun’s magnificent view!

Science!

Our students were dissecting a squid! They investigated its anatomy and its functions. They all did so amazing during this project!

Heritage Project

Our students are getting their boards ready for the presentations tomorrow! Room 31 is focusing in South America, and room 32 is working in Europe!

Getting Ready to Rock Trimester 2!

This week I met with each of my students individually to review their writing. We also had a one-on-one conference on the goals that need to be met, and talk about the steps we are taking to reach the goals set the beginning of the year.
Each student has a list of spelling words and specific goals to work on!
Lets make this second trimester awesome!
As we enter the this trimester, we are practicing by writing 4 paragraph informative essays! We are introducing hoe to write a thesis statement.
In history, the students are learning about Turning Points in History, and students will be selecting a topic to write the informative essay on.
We need your support at home for the students to complete their homework on time, practice the multiplication facts, complete their daily reading Log, and finish with incomplete classwork as well Independent Study.
Thank you for your time and effort to help your student be successful and confident in school.
Happy holidays!

Field Trip!

REMINDER: 4th Grade Field Trip! Permission slips are DUE 10/27 by 4:00 PM!

On Wednesday, November 8th, all Sycamore 4th grade students are invited to attend a field trip! We will be going to Mission San Juan Capistrano at 26801 Old Mission Rd, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675.

Here's what we need parents to do:

1. All students and chaperones are required to wear a school shirt on the field trip. If you purchased a shirt at the beginning of this year or have your field trip shirt from last year, please have your student wear this shirt to school on field trip day. New students will receive a FREE shirt; additional shirts cost $10-$13. If you need to order a new shirt, please contact the office no later than Friday, October 27th, by 4 PM. We will distribute shirts on or before November 3rd.

2. Go to your PowerSchool Parent Portal and complete the permission slip for the event.  The permission slip is under the Forms section in your Parent Portal.

*In order for students to attend the field trip, a parent/guardian must complete the permission slip in the Parent Portal no later than October 27th by 4 PM.

3. If you want to chaperone this event you must be a CLEARED volunteer.  Cleared volunteers need to email Amber or Alma no later than 4 PM on October 27th to be considered.  Please put "MISSION FIELD TRIP" in the subject line.  If we have more volunteers than the number we are permitted to take, we will have a lottery to determine who will attend.

Wildomar please email Amber at [email protected]

Chino please email Alma at [email protected]

*Groups will be split up by classrooms and we will need 2 parents from each classroom to chaperone.

**This venue has a strict 1:10 ratio for chaperones. The mission is open to the public and parents/siblings will be able to purchase admission to explore on their own but will not be able to join the field trip groups until the tour is finished.
