Welcome to Mrs. Gruntz 3rd Grade Class!

3rd

Hello Sycamore Families!

Many of you are familiar with me, but here is my short intro if you are new.
I am originally from Colombia and have been in the States for twenty-five years. I went to CBU and obtained a bachelor's and a Master's in education in 2015. I am a credentialed educator and this is going to be my 10th year serving the community as an Elementary Teacher. I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I love teaching and everything to do with academics while having fun!
This is going to be my fourth school year at Sycamore Academy, and I am beyond excited! I can't wait to see all the 3rd graders happy smiles. We are going to rock this year again and we are going to have so much fun!

I have been married for 19 years, I have no children, so my students become my kiddos each year. I am looking forward. I have two amazing sisters. One of them is serving as a missionary in Japan with her husband and 4 children, and my other sister is in Italy with her husband and expecting a baby girl. My mother is in Colombia and I miss her a bunch, and she comes to visit tree times a year. I normally get to see my sisters once a year.

Communication!

Please don't ever hesitate to contact me, I enjoy communicating about the happenings in our classroom, and I am looking forward to having parent volunteers in the classroom.

Below are some pictures from last school year!

Why Do I Teach?

I teach because it is my God-given purpose. I am thankful for the opportunity to be in the United States of America, and I want to give back to the country that provided so much opportunity for me and my family. My way to give back is to facilitate a love for learning in every student.

I see the value that every child represents within their families and the great value they represent in society at large.

I long to see each student gain the skills to live their purpose. I want to see them thrive through challenges, I long to see them solve simple and complex problems as well. I think children are natural innovators, and they have a natural talent to simply think outside the box. I love the simplicity in which they see the world, and how impressed they are with creation.

Good Evening Families. Thank you for the donations to the first responders. Our kids won a pizza party! I will send the day and time for the pizza party as soon as I hear about it.
Friendly reminders:
* Homework is due tomorrow!
*Missed homework will receive a fine in Classbank.
*The Science boards are due this week. Please encourage your students to rehearse the presentation.
*I will send a Sign-up Genius for the Harvest celebration shortly on the 31st.
*We began the Writing performance task today. I am also doing individualized reading assessments for the next few weeks. If the parent volunteers have a chance to help the students in the next few weeks, they will appreciate it.
* We also are about to start a research activity on the Native Americans Tribes in the classroom. We will continue to practice our writing skills and move from Opinion Writing to Informational writing. I am beyond pleased with the progress in writing, however, we still have many areas to practice, but the bases for writing have been laid.

Keep a folder at home with all the graded paperwork, once you check the grades in PowerSchool, you can dispose of the paperwork if you do not have any questions. If you have questions, please reach me promptly with the subject and the name of the assignment so I can efficiently help you.
Thank you again.

Thank you for your support!

Being Assertive!

We talked about compassion, and kindness. We completed an activity about being assertive!
Today before game time starts, the students are learning about the eye by dissecting a cow’s eye!
The level of engagement is amazing!
The students put their best effort during the State Testing! I so proud of all their achievements. Now we are preparing for the art showcase, and for S.C.O.R.E Awards!
Our students are doing their best during state testing!
I got them some citrus fruit to keep their brains energized.
I am so proud of them!
Reading Fun!
My classroom has been reading each Morning.
They have been tested in every book they read. Every time they pass a test on the book comprehension test, they receive from $20 to $30 in their Bankaroo account.
So far they have read 68 books in the last two months and a half.

Last Trimester!

Our students have been working so hard this year and we have seen so much growth! We completed the two weeks of I-ready testing. I got to meet with each student to examine their academic and personal goals. Many students reached the end of the year goal during the first or second trimester! How amazing! Now we are focusing on reaching the next goals. The students will be taking the MAPs test next week and we need your support to make sure they are well rested and ready to show their academic skills. We are not counting the days, but we are making each day count!

2024 Solar Eclipse!

Our students enjoy learning and experiencing the solar eclipse. Everyone one has the opportunity to look at our sun’s magnificent view!

Science!

Our students were dissecting a squid! They investigated its anatomy and its functions. They all did so amazing during this project!
