Welcome to Our Classroom!

Kyle Prario
First-Year Teacher at Sycamore Academy Charter School

Hello students and families!

I’m so excited to be joining the Sycamore Academy community as a first-year teacher! While this is my first official year in the classroom as a lead teacher, I bring with me valuable experience working with students in both 2nd and 4th grade during my time with the Murrieta Valley School District. I’m thrilled to begin this new journey with all of you and can’t wait to get to know each student and family throughout the year.

🎓 My Education Journey

I hold a Master’s in Education from Western Governors University, which I completed over the past two years. Before that, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from California State University San Marcos. These experiences have helped shape my teaching philosophy and deepened my passion for student growth, creativity, and success.

🌟 My Teaching Philosophy

I believe every child is capable of incredible growth when supported, challenged, and encouraged. My classroom will be a safe, engaging, and respectful space where students can explore, question, learn, and thrive. I’m here to support each student in their individual learning journey and to celebrate their unique strengths and progress.

🏕️ A Bit About Me

Outside the classroom, I love spending time outdoors—whether it's camping, golfing, surfing or simply enjoying nature. I'm also a big fan of sports and anything involving friendly competition. I believe that these passions help me bring energy, creativity, and teamwork into the classroom.

🤝 Let’s Stay Connected

I value open communication and partnership with families. We’re a team in your child’s education, and I look forward to working together to make this year one filled with growth, fun, and success!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or just to say hello. Here's to an amazing school year ahead!

Warmly,
Kyle Prario

Sycamore Academy – 8th Grade Weekly Newsletter

Week of September 22, 2025 – Class Updates & Reminders

Hello Scorpion Families,

Here’s a quick look at what we worked on this week and what’s coming up. Thank you for partnering with us as we head toward the Science Showcase!

Science Showcase – Action Steps

  • This week, students focused on **designing their experiments**. I encouraged families to **begin running trials at home**, record data carefully, and **take photos** to use on the tri‑fold poster boards.
  • If you didn’t get to it yet, please make this a **high priority**—the Showcase is coming up quickly and we still have plenty to do.
  • In class, we are **analyzing data** and **building clean visuals** (tables, graphs) while we determine whether our hypotheses were supported.

ELA – Animal Farm

  • We are **nearly finished** with our first novel, *Animal Farm*. Students have had thoughtful discussions about themes, propaganda, and power.
  • Ask your student what they think Orwell wanted readers to learn and which moments stood out most.

Looking Ahead – SCORE Goals

  • Next week, each student will set **three SCORE goals**: one Math goal, one ELA goal, and one **personal** goal. I’ll conference briefly with each student to make sure goals are specific and actionable.

Important Reminders

  • **SCORE Conferences:** **Thursday–Friday, October 2–3, 2025** (in person preferred, Zoom/phone available by request).
  • I emailed and sent a Remind message with the SignUpGenius link. If you haven’t already, please book your time: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054BAAA82AA3FFC25-58710872-score#/
  • **Science Showcase:** Keep collecting data and photos. Save any materials/labels you’ll want on the tri‑fold poster.

As always, thank you for your support—please reach out if you have any questions or need guidance with your student’s project.

Warmly,
Kyle Prario

September Update

Science Showcase Experiments

Hello Parents,

It’s time for our Science Showcase Projects to move into the experimentation stage! Students will now begin conducting their experiments at home. Please help your child carry out the experiment, record results carefully, and start interpreting what those results mean.

To guide you, here is a simple outline of how to follow the Scientific Method with your child:

  1. Ask a Question

    • Help your student clearly state the problem or question their experiment is trying to answer.

  2. Do Background Research

    • Encourage them to review their notes or look up reliable sources to understand what is already known about the topic.

  3. Form a Hypothesis

    • Work with your child to make an educated guess about what will happen. (Example: If plants are given more sunlight, then they will grow taller.)

  4. Plan the Experiment

    • Identify variables:

      • Independent variable – what you change (e.g., amount of sunlight).

      • Dependent variable – what you measure (e.g., plant height).

      • Controlled variables – what stays the same (e.g., type of soil, amount of water).

    • Decide how many trials or samples are needed for reliable results.

  5. Conduct the Experiment

    • Follow the plan step by step.

    • Take careful notes, measurements, and photos if possible.

  6. Analyze the Data

    • Create charts, tables, or graphs to see patterns in the results.

    • Discuss whether the data supports or contradicts the hypothesis.

  7. Draw a Conclusion

    • Help your student explain what was learned and what new questions might come up.

    • Suggest possible next steps or improvements for future testing.

School Updates

  • Testing Complete: We have finished all of our MAP and i-Ready assessments—great job to all the students for their hard work!

  • Routines & Expectations: With assessments behind us, our daily schedule is in full swing, and we continue to reinforce our classroom routines and high expectations.

Homework Reminder

Students have weekly CAR  (homework), assigned Tuesday to Tuesday. It will usually be posted on Google Classroom for easy access.

Communication

If you have any questions or need support as your child works through their science experiment, please reach out. Your involvement makes a big difference!

Thank you for your partnership, and have a wonderful weekend.

Warmly,
Kyle Prario

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We had a busy and productive week in class, and I’d like to share a few updates with you.

🔬 Science Showcase

Students have selected their science fair topics and written their hypotheses this week. Next week, please work with your child on the next step:

  • Designing their experiment

  • Identifying variables

  • Listing materials

  • Writing clear procedures

Your support at home will help them build confidence and stay on track.

📑 Forms & Paperwork

  • Please make sure you have completed and returned the “Leader in Me” form and Field Trip form sent home by the office. These are important for upcoming activities and opportunities.

📝 Classroom Highlights

  • Students completed MAP testing this week—great effort all around!

  • In Social Studies, we are creating Declaration of Independence posters, connecting history to creativity.

📚 Tutoring Opportunities

I invite students to join me for small-group tutoring:

  • Tuesdays – ELA

  • Thursdays – Math
This is a great chance to get extra support and build skills.

🎉 Clubs Have Begun!

Clubs officially started this week, and students are excited to explore their interests and talents outside of the classroom.

Thank you for your continued support at home!
Together, we’re building strong learners and leaders.

Scorpion Update 🦂

This week was filled with fun and learning! On Monday, we had an exciting Scorpion Salute with CrossFit fitness coaches, who taught our students how to be proactive and healthy with both exercise and diet.

We also began our iReady Diagnostics for math and reading, helping us see all the great progress our students are making. In science, students kicked off a hands-on project by building paper rockets, and next week we’ll be conducting experiments to see them in action! 🚀

It’s been a fun and productive week of growth. Let’s enjoy the weekend with our families, and return Monday with refreshed minds, ready to learn even more. 💪📚

Additionally, if you would like to follow our progress with assignments in Google Classroom, you can do so here: Google Classroom Link.

First Week Check-In

8th Grade Newsletter – We’re Off to a Great Start!
Dear Parents & Guardians,
We’ve had an amazing first week of school! Students are settling in and building a strong classroom community. I’m excited for what’s ahead.
📌 Next Week: We will begin our iReady diagnostics to help guide instruction for the year.
🎉 You’re Invited: Join us for our Scorpion Salute on Monday at 8:30 AM.
📚 Homework Update: I haven’t assigned any homework this first week. I believe learning should happen mostly in the classroom, and home should be for family and friends. Our homework is called CAR and runs Tuesday to Tuesday. It will be simple—just one math activity and one ELA activity each week.
📖 Reading: I encourage students to read as often as possible—daily is preferred, but I understand everyone has busy lives.
🔬 Science Showcase: The first of three showcases this year is the Science Showcase!
    • Project boards and completed projects due: 10/20
    • Showcase event: 10/30 from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
We will work on projects in class weekly, but students are encouraged to continue at home.
I’m looking forward to an exciting and successful year with our amazing 8th graders!
Warmly,
Kyle Prario
