ASSESSMENTS:  Reading 

This week in class students learn/practice/review the letter Yy and the blends br, bl, gr, gl.

SHARED READING:  Fran Goes to the Prom

LISTEN TO:  Brainpop Explains Contractions

NEW Whole Brain Teaching Concepts:   Contractions

REVIEW Whole Brain Teaching Concepts:  comparison, contrast, end marks, main idea, singular nouns, plural nouns  

LESSON:  ABC Order  (peel zoom roll)

SYLLABLE PRACTICE:  recognizing how many syllables in words

WORD SORT:  Sort #24  blends with Words and Pictures

With the following words students must match the pictures, write the blend, and word for each picture; bride, globe, blouse, grass, block, bridge, blow, grocery, blade, glass, grill, brick, bread, blanket, cricket, glue, blindfold, glove, brush, grapes.

You can also practice at home with your child by reading, spelling and using these words in a sentence.

POEM:  "Is a zebra white with stripes of black or black with white stripes down its back?"

With your child, practice reading, writing, and reciting this poem.

DRAW & WRITE:  Students draw a zebra and write their own sentence.

WORD SORT:  Sort #4 Beginning Consonants l, k, j, w

[jeep, lips, kitchen, well, log, kangaroo, worm, jacks, wing, jump, leg, kitten, leaf, window, jacket, kick, witch, kite, lock, jar]

You can also practice at home with your child by sorting these words according to their beginning sound and use them in a sentence.

POEM:  "Pumpkin, pumpkin orange and bright.  I will carve you on Halloween night."

With your child, practice reading, writing, and reciting this poem.

DRAW & WRITE:  Students draw a pumpkin and write the sentence, I will carve a pumpkin on Halloween night.
