April!

Hello,

Students have been testing last week and this week and have been doing an amazing job! Please continue to make sure your student is having a well balanced breakfast and getting to school on time!

In math we are focusing on measurement and data! In science, we dissected a squid and the students had such a blast learning about the internal and external structures of the squid.

In ELA they have been working on how to write an awesome narrative! They are going to begin writing a narrative about their school year, but adding a fun twist to their narrative!

The students have shown so much growth so far this year and we are so proud of each of our 4th graders!

Thank you,
Mrs. E.

The students were having fun at PE building snowmen this week!

The students have also been working hard in the classroom finishing up their History Essays! They are doing an amazing job and the essays look amazing. The essays are due this week, so please make sure you are checking in on your student to make sure they are getting it completed!

Thank you,
Mrs. E.
Hello,

The students are getting excited about winter break and are doing some fun activities to get into the holiday spirit! They have also been working hard in class to continue to grow academically!

We have our Secret Santa Holiday Party tomorrow, so if you have not already got your present, please be sure to send it with your student tomorrow! We will be getting all the food for the party tomorrow for the students with the donations that you all provided, so we appreciate all the donations so far!

The students have been working very hard on their Turning Points in History essay in class. They have learned how to write a thesis and they are understanding how to better organize their writing! We are thrilled with their growth in writing!

In science we have introduced energy systems and potential energy and motion energy. We did a demonstration in class where they could see how potential energy transforms into motions energy with a little force. I encourage you to ask your students about energy and different energy systems they see on a daily basis!

As always, we are having fun and learning each day!

Thank you,
Mrs. E.

November!

Hello Sycamore Families!

Next week, we go on our field trip to San Juan Capistrano on November 8th. We have been working in the classroom on group research projects on some of the different missions in California and the students have been excited to learn about them!

In math, we have started learning 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication and although it is a new skill, the students have been practicing and learning the new concept with ease! I encourage them to continue practicing their multiplication facts at home to help them moving forward!

The students have been learning and growing each week and it is amazing to see them grasping new concepts and being excited to learn and succeed in the classroom!

Thank you,
Mrs. E

The science fair was so much fun! The projects looked amazing and the students had a great time presenting their experiment to their classmates!

September 26th Update

Hello!

As we wrap up the month of September the students have been working hard in the classroom. In math, we have been doing review on multi-digit addition and regrouping, as well as rounding. In science, the students have been learning about the rock cycle, weather and erosion, and now we are learning about relief maps and how they can help us determine different types of landforms. In ELA, the students have been learning about different parts of speech and writing simple sentences with correct grammar. Our artist for the month is Faith Ringgold, so students are finishing up their paper quilts that tell their own story of a happy moment in their life. We have had an exciting month getting to know each other, figuring out the new schedule as 4th graders, and taking control of their own academic success!

Thank you,
Mrs. E.

Week of September 5th!

Hello!

The students have been working on the rock cycle and understanding how rocks form. They had the chance to study a rock kit with 15 different types of rocks and they wrote down their observations about the different rocks. They also did a fun experiment in class where we shaved different color crayons to represent sediment, then submerged it in hot water to watch them turn in a "metamorphic rock." This week we will be working on researching a rock of their choice from the rock kit! They have also started working on ideas for their science fair project and they have some great ideas!

We have also been reintroducing the 7 Healthy Habits and have been have great classroom discussion on how we can contribute positively to our classroom and to the people in our lives. This week, we will be getting more in-depth with Habit #1- Be Proactive!

In math, we have been doing review on making t-tables and understanding place value. We will continue to do review this week, but I encourage every student to practice their multiplication facts at home regularly to strengthen their skills.

I look forward to a great week this week!

Mrs. E.
